My name is Dave Schradieck My wife and I own and operate Bandon Beach Vacation Rentals and We would like to see more fun events in town that locals and tourists will have fun doing and at the same time help promote a healthy business atmosphere in all of Bandon. We think if people have fun and win some prizes and $$$ that they will talk about our town and hopefully others will come to Bandon. My wife and I were talking about what would be appropriate for a great little coastal town like Bandon and we came up with doing a crab derby. What is the Bandon Crab Derby? Well we took lots of Dungeness crabs and tagged them with little tags and put them into the Coquille River. People that catch these tagged crabs turn in the tag and their name goes into box and we have a drawing for prizes at a later date. Some prizes are worth up to $1000.00 CASH I needed to get the money to put on this promotion so I made a few calls and some very special people stepped up and gave me the money to put on the promotion for Bandon. I’d like to thank all the sponsors; with out them the Bandon Crab Derby would not be possible. Guy Hawthorne from Coos Bay Toyota and Gracie May The Bandon Crab Derby starts July 1st and runs through Approximately 100 Dungeness crabs will be tagged and put back into the Coquille. People that catch Dungeness crabs with a little numbered brass tags The tag is kept and used in drawings with prizes worth up to $1000.00 CASH The more crabs that are caught with tags and recorded the more chances the individual will have to win. We will have two drawings in July and two drawings in August and the 2 really big drawings will be on September 2nd at 4 PM at Tony’s Crab Shack. The first four drawings are for $100.00 each and you must be present to win these. We will draw a brass tag until we get a winner or up to 3 tries. If there is no winner in three tries we will put the unclaimed money towards another drawing on September 2nd. The tags will be saved for the other drawings, so if you win one of the smaller drawings you will still have a chance in the big drawings. The 2 big drawings on September 2nd you do not have to be present for, but if you win one of the 2 BIG drawings you will get more money if you are present! On September 2nd at 4 PM at Tony’s Crab Shack we will draw the first brass tag. The winner will get $750.00 and if the winner is present on Sept. 2nd they will get an extra $250.00 totaling $1000.00 The second tag drawn will get $150.00 and if the winner is present on Sept. 2nd they will get an extra $150.00 totaling $300.00 Rules The 2007 Bandon Crab Derby is open to anyone who uses recreational crabbing gear only. Commercial crabbers and divers are excluded from participation in the To be eligible for any prize or consolation prize the numbered tag must be verified and personal information recorded by 12 noon September 2nd at Tony’s Crab Shack. Only people with valid Oregon Shell Fish licenses are eligible. Only people using recreational crabbing gear are eligible. Oregon rules and laws concerning crabbing are available at businesses that By accepting any prize the crabber agrees to allow the use of their name and picture in advertising and press releases. It is the prize winner’s responsibility to pay for any and all taxes associated with winning and the winners are to report any prizes on their yearly income tax reports. If a minor wins their parent or legal guardian must claim the prize. |
